MAGIC WORDS Xatanitos Origins: Xatanitos is an antiquated magic word for use during card shuffling and for luck involving five cards. This word comes from an Egyptian book of magical talismans entitled Treasure of the Old Man of the Pyramids, "translated from the Language of the Magi" in the eighteenth century.1 Facts: The original manuscript recommends making a talisman of the magic word and binding it upon one's left arm with a white ribbon. The word should be spoken "when shuffling for self or partner. Before beginning, touch your left arm with your right hand in the neighborhood of the talisman." Figure 42. Emblazoned with mysterious symbols, this good luck charm is a "Five Card Stud" talisman. It is based upon the research of Arthur Edward Waite in The Book of Ceremonial Magic (191 ). 1 Arthur Edward Waite, The Book of Ceremonial Magic (191 ) Ibid.
